1.5 lbs flank steak

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bag tortilla chips
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/4 cup pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

  • Preparation:

    1. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the flank steak and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
    2. Cook the Steak: Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet to high heat. Grill the steak for 4-5 minutes per side, or until desired level of doneness. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly.
    3. Assemble the Nachos: Spread a layer of tortilla chips on a baking sheet. Top with the sliced steak, then sprinkle with Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese.
    4. Bake the Nachos: Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    5. Serve: Remove the nachos from the oven and top with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, cilantro, and lime wedges.

    Total Time: Approximately 45 minutes

    A Fusion of Flavors

This dish is a testament to the power of culinary fusion. The hearty steak, a staple in many Western cuisines, is elevated by the vibrant flavors of Latin America. The tortilla chips, a Mexican classic, provide a crispy base for the rich and savory toppings. The combination of cheeses, a nod to European influence, adds a creamy and indulgent element.

As you savor each bite, you’ll experience a symphony of tastes and textures. The smoky, slightly spicy steak pairs perfectly with the tangy pico de gallo and creamy guacamole. The melted cheese adds a gooey, satisfying element, while the fresh cilantro and lime provide a bright and refreshing finish.

This recipe is more than just a dish; it’s a journey through time and culture. It’s a celebration of the diversity of human cuisine and the power of creativity to bring people together.
