  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Crumble Topping:
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

  • Preparation Process:

    1. Prepare the Instant Pot:

  • Spray the inner pot with non-stick cooking spray.

  • 2. Make the Cake Batter:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

  • 3. Assemble the Dessert:

  • Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared Instant Pot.
  • Top with the sliced apples.
  • Sprinkle with the caramel sauce, made by combining the sugar, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until melted and bubbly.
  • Pour the remaining cake batter over the apples and caramel sauce.
  • Combine the crumble topping ingredients in a bowl, using a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the cake batter.

  • 4. Cook in the Instant Pot:

  • Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing.
  • Press the manual or pressure cook button and set the time to 25 minutes.
  • Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then quick-release any remaining pressure.

  • 5. Serve:

  • Let the cake cool completely in the pot before removing and serving.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

  • Total Time: Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes
